#Appsmashing Buncee & Seesaw To Differentiate Instruction

We all know that everyone learns in different ways and at different paces, making differentiation of instruction key to student success. Thankfully, educators have access to a wide variety of tools to assist with differentiation. Sara Frater and Kim Johnson are two educators who’ve fully embraced their edtech toolbox to tailor instruction and meet each students’ unique needs.

Sara and Kim, both second-grade teachers at Elk River Area Schools, have successfully differentiated their literacy instruction using two edtech tools: Buncee and Seesaw. Combining the power of Seesaw’s Activities feature with the Buncee creation canvas, they’ve seen some amazing results. Upon review the student learning outcomes, Kim said, “I used Buncee with Leveled Literacy Intervention and incremental rehearsal to boost my students reading skills; 77% of the students I serviced went from high risk on FAST to some or low risk!”

Sara states: We find Buncee and Seesaw to be priceless tools in creating student voice, independence and accountability. Our reading block is structured,standards-focused and engaging. We put the “I can” statements that match our standard on the Buncee so students are always aware of our learning goals. When we make Seesaw activities, we often will have students check in with their learning using our district learning goals and scales. This helps students be reflective of their learning. Students get to collaborate and work together better than ever before as well.
Buncee and Seesaw are an everyday tech integration duo that we would not want to teach without; they have transformed our literacy block into a fun, creative and very purposeful learning environment.
Sara and Kim create literacy task cards, guidelines for lessons, and templates on Buncee to send as assignments through Seesaw. Be sure to check out their presentation for a more in-depth look into their creations: Seesaw PD in Your PJs – Using Activities for Differentiation and Personalization.
