Adios, boring open houses! Hello, interactive, technology-enhanced activities that engage your families and leave the classroom excited. Teachers and students continue to understand the explosion called digital learning technologies. Parents, however, wander cluelessly about the effective uses of the available websites for their student. The overwhelming information suffocates our parents, who also learn by doing. Shift the responsibility to the students, and viola! Learner becomes teacher. What better way to allow a child to transform their parent’s wheel of learning? Parents learn from their child how digital technology is intertwined into their daily learning environment. Experience eight stations my parents visit during our open house.

Blended Learning for Active Learners
Room: NORTH 320E Session Number: C290
Wednesday, January 30, 2019: 1:00 PM – 1:40 PM
One of the keys to academic achievement is active learning. By integrating blended and digital learning into the classroom, educators can take learning experiences to the next level and improve student performance. Blended learning is an instructional methodology. It is a teaching and learning approach that combines face-to-face classroom methods with digital created activities to deliver instruction. A classroom that nurtures creativity often results in students taking different approaches to interacting with the same curriculum. Computers don’t teach; apps don’t teach; teachers teach. It’s important to know what tools we have and what they’re capable of providing to enhance student learning. This session will focus on blended learning tools that can increase student engagement.
