Special Holiday Wishes for Our Law Enforcement Officers

Special Holiday Wishes for Our Law Enforcement Officers

As the very proud daughter of a retired police chief with thirty-two and a half years in the department, all things law enforcement related are very near and dear to my heart. I have seen firsthand the risks and sacrifices that these brave men and women make for us on a daily basis.

Over the years in my classroom, my students and I have had the honor and privilege of interacting with some of these amazing men and women. It is through these valuable interactions years ago that my students were inspired to start personalizing holiday cards for our local law enforcement officers as a small way of showing our appreciation and support for the incredible sacrifices they make for us each day.

This year I spoke to my students about taking our efforts to a whole new level with the possibility of reaching officers nationwide. You should have seen the twinkle in their eyes considering this possibility! It was a unanimous decision! As we are personalizing our physical cards for our local law enforcement officers this year, we will be creating Buncees to add to our special Buncee Board that we will be sharing with law enforcement officers nationwide. This is a special way to send holiday wishes showing our support and encouragement to these amazingly brave men and women.

We would love to have others join us in thanking these brave men and women and sending them special holiday wishes by adding to our Buncee Board. I dedicate this special Buncee Board to the beloved memory of my amazing Daddy. Happy Holidays with much love and appreciation to all of our incredible law enforcement officers!

About Barbie Monty: Barbie received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education (Cum Laude) from Mississippi University for Women. Upon moving to Tampa Bay and marrying in 2000, Barbie came to Carrollwood Day School.  She was drawn to CDS after learning of its character education initiative.   She quickly became an active member of the CDS faculty taking a position in the fifth grade.  She assumed the role of advisor to the fifth grade School Store where her responsibilities include scheduling students and parents, ordering merchandise, and monitoring its weekly operation which gives students hands-on experience preparing them for their unit focusing on business and economics.  She eagerly accepted the role of Inservice Coordinator for the faculty of the ECC, the elementary, and middle school division and excitedly added the high school division upon its inception.

Barbie became the advisor to the fifth-grade Safety Patrol and is responsible for training, scheduling, and monitoring the patrol on a daily basis providing fifth graders with an incredible opportunity to experience leadership roles before beginning their middle school journey.  Barbie loves working with the CDS fifth grade students and has been instrumental in developing many of the Units of Inquiry they currently enjoy each year.  Follow Barbie’s class on Twitter!
